Bollywood fans waiting for Hera Pheri 3 got a big twist this week. Akshay Kumar surprised everyone by announcing the start of a brand-new film with Saif Ali Khan titled Haiwaan, directed by Priyadarshan.
For months, buzz was strong that Hera Pheri 3 would roll in 2025 with the original trio Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty, and Paresh Rawal. But Akshay’s fresh Instagram video confirmed otherwise. In his caption, he wrote:
“We are all a little devil, some are saints from above, some are demons from inside.” Starting the shoot of the demon with my favourite Mr. Priyadarshan. Excited to work with Saif after 18 years.
This means Hera Pheri 3 will not begin this year as expected. According to Priyadarshan, work on the script is still in progress and the film is more likely for 2026.

Haiwaan movie: Akshay-Saif Reunion After 18 Years
The bigger news is Akshay and Saif’s reunion after nearly two decades. Their last outing was Tashan (2008). Before that, fans loved their chemistry in hits like Main Khiladi Tu Anari (1994), Yeh Dillagi (1994), Tu Chor Main Sipahi (1996), and Keemat (1998).
Alongside this big update, another major headline is about director Priyadarshan, who has officially confirmed that he will soon retire from filmmaking. The veteran filmmaker said he is “getting tired” and wants to wrap up his career after completing three final projects: Haiwaan with Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan, the much-awaited Hera Pheri 3, and his 100th film with Mohanlal. Interestingly, Mohanlal will also make a cameo in Haiwaan. Even though Priyadarshan has never been a big fan of directing sequels, he agreed to helm Hera Pheri 3 only because of his strong bond with the cast and producers. With these projects, he is preparing for a graceful exit, marking the end of an era in Indian cinema.

The Hera Pheri 3 Controversy
The delay in Hera Pheri 3 is also linked to recent controversies. Paresh Rawal had briefly walked out of the project, leading to a legal notice worth ₹25 crore from Akshay’s production house. After weeks of tension, Paresh and Akshay reconciled, with Priyadarshan confirming that the actor is back on board. With the patch-up complete, the film is expected to begin in 2026, keeping the original cast intact.
So while Hera Pheri 3 fans must wait a little longer, the return of Akshay and Saif in Haiwaan has already created massive buzz. An exciting reunion, a trusted director, and a thriller theme, this combination is enough to keep Bollywood fans hooked until the film hits screens.
