Dhruv Rathee Slams Dhurandhar Trailer: Comparing Ranveer Singh’s Film to ISIS Videos

The Dhruv Rathee Slams Dhurandhar Trailer incident sparked massive controversy after he compared its violent visuals to ISIS videos, leading to strong public backlash and a later apology.

On 18 November, the trailer of Ranveer Singh’s film Dhurandhar was released, and as soon as it dropped, people on social media started reacting immediately. These days, whenever a film is too violent, it is instantly compared to Animal. The list already includes films like Kill, Marco, and Baaghi 4, and now Aditya Dhar and his film Dhurandhar have joined this league. From teaser to trailer, Dhurandhar is being compared to Animal, and in fact, it has even crossed Animal in terms of brutality shown.

But what happened with this trailer didn’t stop there. Popular YouTuber Dhruv Rathee gave a very strong reaction to it on Twitter. He compared the Dhurandhar trailer to ISIS videos. ISIS, the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, is the same Middle Eastern terrorist group that used to upload beheading videos. Dhruv Rathee wrote in his post that the Dhurandhar trailer feels exactly like watching an ISIS beheading video and calling it “entertainment.” He said the trailer shows so much violence, bloodshed, and torture that it crosses all limits of cheapness in Bollywood.

Dhruv Rathee also wrote that director Aditya Dhar has gone so far in pursuit of money that he is poisoning the minds of the young generation. According to him, films like these make people careless about violence and normalize torture. Then, Dhruv rathee also targeted the censor board. He said that the censor board now needs to show what they have a bigger problem with? After this statement, people quickly reminded him of his past. Some users wrote that Dhruv himself had promoted projects like Gangs of Wasseypur, Pathaan, War 2, and Wire of Universe. According to them, if he was praising violent scenes three months ago, how can he now have such a big problem with Dhurandhar?

Social Media Reacts: Hypocrisy or Genuine Concern?

One user wrote: “Criticism is fine, but comparing a film’s trailer to an ISIS beheading is going too far.” Another said: “There’s no need to compare filmmakers to terrorists. Question the art, but don’t spread rumors.” A third wrote: “This isn’t criticism, it’s stupidity in the name of showing anger. If this is the standard of debate, then the problem is not with Aditya Dhar’s film, but with your logic.” Dhruv’s taunt at the censor board also became a point of discussion among users, since recently the board has indeed targeted a lot of kissing scenes — as seen in films like Superman, Thaama, and Saiyara. Later, when people shared his old violent-film videos, Dhruv admitted in a YouTube reply: “I was wrong. Earlier, I didn’t understand the impact such films have on society.” This was his acknowledgment that his earlier thinking was wrong or incomplete, but the criticism now seemed stronger in the public’s perception.

The real bomb of Dhurandhar will explode when it releases in theaters on 5 December. For now, the public’s eyes are on just one thing that how filmmaker Aditya Dhar will take this film through the censor board. Because they want the film to be shown just like the trailer, without any blur or cuts, otherwise, the hype and the brutal style won’t come across, which in reality is what gives the story its full impact.
