Last night, Hrithik Roshan praised the film Dhurandhar as ‘pure cinema’ on his Instagram story. He wrote that he likes filmmakers who immerse themselves completely in the story and tell it openly.
In his opinion, the narrative style, implementation and execution of the film ‘Dhurandhar’ are ‘great’.
Hrithik wrote a line that caused a stir on social media:
‘It is possible that I disagree with the film’s politics.’ And then what happened? This statement triggered the Hrithik Roshan Dhurandhar controversy, and a heated debate started across the internet.
Dhurandhar is inspired by real events. The film contains references to Pakistani politics, the gang war in Lyari, the hijacking of flight IC-814, the counterfeit money network and the 26 November attacks in Mumbai. Alongside Ranveer Singh, Akshaye Khanna, R. Madhavan, Rakesh Bedi, and Ajay Sanyal also gave their best in Dhurandhar. Due to the real-life elements, there were already online discussions in the run-up to the film’s release. Hrithik Roshan’s ‘political’ statement further fuelled these debates.
After Hrithik’s first post, people asked why he was staying out of the film’s politics. Some called the post ‘unnecessary criticism,’ while others said, ‘if your own films aren’t doing well, you should avoid making such statements.’ But amid the criticism, Hrithik posted a second message but this time with nothing but praise.
He praised Ranveer Singh’s film career, praised Akshaye Khanna’s performance in his new film, spoke of R. Madhavan’s grace and described Rakesh Bedi’s work as ‘stunning’. The make-up and prosthetics team was also given special mention, with the following comment:
‘Now I can hardly wait for Dhurandhar Part 2.’ This astonishing turnaround was also highlighted because Yami Gautam had previously taken action against the ‘negative PR’ surrounding Dhurandhar, thereby indirectly targeting Bollywood, while Hrithik Roshan was the first actor to support the film. When he now took up the topic of politics, some people disagreed.
