Smriti Irani Returns as Tulsi After 25 Years! ‘Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2’ Promo Drops, Old Drama Meets New Generation

After 25 years, Indian television’s most iconic character, Tulsi Virani, is back—played once again by Smriti Irani herself. The promo of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2 just dropped, and the nostalgia is hitting strongly. Ekta Kapoor is reviving the legendary Star Plus saga with a sharp mix of original cast and fresh blood, all wrapped in updated visuals and tighter storytelling.

Smriti’s first glimpse as Tulsi—draped in a purple-bordered saree, big red bindi, traditional silver-black jewelry, and a soft side bun—has already gone viral. She delivers the emotional line, “Humara 25 saalon ka rishta hai, waqt aagaya hai aapse milne ka,” triggering waves of nostalgia among fans.

Joining her is Amar Upadhyay, returning as Mihir Virani. Together, they lead the rebooted Virani family story—this time as parents of three grown-up children. Rohit Suchanti plays Angad, the main lead and their eldest son. Shagun Sharma plays his sister, while Aman Gandhi rounds off the trio as the third sibling. Opposite Rohit, Tanisha Mehta plays Vrinda, bringing a new love story into the heart of the narrative.

While Angad and Vrinda’s track is set to lead the series, the lives of the other siblings will also unfold in parallel. And that’s not all. Multiple season 1 actors have been approached or are already on board: Hiten Tejwani, Gauri Pradhan, Rakshanda Khan, Shilpa Agnihotri, and Sandeep Baswana are likely to return. Confirmed faces include Ketaki Dave as Daksha Virani and Kamalika Guha Thakurta as Gayatri. Actress Bharati Achrekar, known for shows like Chidiya Ghar and Wagle Ki Duniya, is also nearly confirmed. Karishma Tanna and Mouni Roy have been approached for the promo shoot and limited appearances in early episodes, possibly as cameos. Meanwhile, popular Anupamaa actress Nidhi Shah is in talks for a key role—though she hasn’t signed yet.

The show was originally scheduled to premiere on 3rd July 2025, the exact date the original aired 25 years ago. However, the launch has now been officially postponed to 29 July 2025, airing at 10:30 pm on Star Plus. Amar Upadhyay confirmed the delay was due to Ekta Kapoor’s perfectionism—she was not satisfied with the color balance and design of the set and decided to revamp it. Shooting began on 3 July as a symbolic gesture, marking the 25th anniversary of the original.

“Just like Tulsi’s return, Bollywood is witnessing major legacy shake-ups—Ranveer Singh replacing SRK in Don 3 is one of the biggest surprises this year.”

Smriti Irani’s return represents more than just a successful casting choice. In a past interview, she revealed that she was once ready to return to the show in 2000—but just before the reboot, she received a call from the PMO and had to step away to become a cabinet minister. That “what if” moment now finds closure in this 2025 revival.

In her scenes with Amar, the chemistry is still intact. As he said in an interview, “We are starting from where we left off. She maintains the same level of ease and energy. But this time, the story is new, and the excitement is also new.”

While the absence of Sudha Shivpuri (Baa) is deeply felt, the makers promise that the legacy of the Virani family will be honored with the same emotional weight that once made it a household obsession.

Smriti Irani is back. Tulsi is back. And drama is back—only this time, it’s personal.
