Ranbir Kapoor The Bads of Bollywood controversy is currently the hottest topic around Aryan Khan’s debut web series on Netflix. Aryan Khan’s first web series, The Bads of Bollywood, released on September 16 on Netflix, has sparked quite a controversy. The show had already gone viral for its bizarre dialogues, short scenes, and meta references, but now one particular short scene has caught everyone’s attention.

Ranbir Kapoor appears in the series in only one short scene, in which he asks Ania Singh to smoke an e-cigarette for him. E-cigarettes are banned in India under the Electronic Cigarettes Prohibition Act of 2019. However, no legal warning or disclaimer was shown during the scene. For this reason, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken action on the matter.

The complainant, Vinay Joshi, filed a complaint with the Mumbai police and requested an investigation into Ranbir Kapoor, Netflix, and the producers of the series. He says that this type of content sends the wrong message to young people and encourages the use of prohibited substances. The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) also sent a notice to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and asked the Mumbai Police Commissioner to submit a report on the action taken within two weeks.

The Electronic Cigarette Ban Act, passed in 2019, clearly states that the manufacture, import, sale, storage, and promotion of electronic cigarettes is illegal. The complaint states that the portrayal of electronic cigarettes in the series without a warning could fall under the category of promotion.

The question now is: Is the scene of Ranbir smoking e-cigarettes considered “promotion” or simply character portrayal? The complaint currently focuses on its negative impact on young people and health risks. No official statement has yet been released by Netflix or the series’ creators. But this controversy is adding to the buzz around the series people are now not only following Arian Khan’s directorial debut, but also closely following this legal issue.
